Taffy: also known as "Heathen" and "Pumpkin Face"
This is the story of Taffy who arrived on October 16th 2004 . We believe that he was lost during the terrific flooding in the previous month, however it seems he was on the run for weeks from the looks of him.
Taffy was with 2 slightly larger dogs of apparently the same breed. They could easily have been mistaken for coyotes. They arrived in a pouring down rain around 11pm. We put food, water and blankets out under the back porch overhang and next day they were gone. Two nights later, also in the rain, "Taffy" returned. We also thought HE was a SHE!
After a couple weeks of frantically trying to find out who he belonged to, we gave up and decided to keep him ourselves. First we took him to the vets where he was treated for worms and given all his shots, next up was a 4 hour trip to a groomer who shaved him bald as his hair was matted beyond belief and full of fleas, plus moldy! We had no idea what breed he was, no idea how old he was, no idea what to do for him and no idea if he would stay with us.
I have never seen an animal so pathetic looking in my entire life and I frankly did not think he would make it as he had severe diarrhea and vomiting but he was a real trooper. Now that we have him, I have no idea how we ever lived without him.
